PUTTING THE PHOTOS IN YOUR ADS Now that you have your pictures out there on a server computer, you can begin to use them in your ads. Simply type in the URL (uniform resource locator) of your picture in the Optional Picture URL field of the auction listing page when you post your ad. Remember: Viewers can look into your web space, but not your computer. The URL of your image must now relate to the URL of your web space NOT TO YOUR HARD DRIVE! Your server will have an address. You will get this when you sign up in a confirming e-mail. SAVE IT! You can get the rest of your web space URL of your picture when you are looking at your WS_FTP program window by clicking on "DirInfo" on the right window, scrolling across, and picking out the part in the far right column that your file is named. (IMPORTANT: The URL of the image(s) must be the exact address of the images on the server. You must also put in the exact lower case or upper case letters of your entire image's URL. They are "case" and "space" sensitive.) You can only put one URL in the Optional Picture URL field. That picture will follow right after your description. If you want to put more than one picture in your ad, you have to do it in the description area using a little HTML. It's not "too" hard, but like I said before, that could be over doing it at times. If you feel you need to, let me know, and I will try to explain it to you and help you with it. Note: You can check to see that you have the URL correct by typing it into the location window of your browser (click on "File" then "Open" to open the correct window) and pressing enter. If it is correct, your picture will display on the screen. Sometimes you will still have problems with your pictures not coming up on the preview screen of the auction. If this happens, it will still most likely be a bad URL - or your server could be down temporarily. To be certain of the exact URL, go to your search engine, click on "File" then "Open". Now type into the window that opens, http://yourwebsiteaddress/yourusername. This will bring up an index of all the items you have on your web space. Now just right click on the item you are trying to display and then select "Properties". Your items complete URL address will be displayed. The FTP program will sometimes add a some characters to fill spaces that you are not aware of. Remember: This address must be typed exactly - "case" and "space" sensitive - or your picture will not display on the auction site. Everything you see there needs to be typed in exactly! A suggestion here: Use all lower case letters and no spaces when you name your picture files. This will eliminate a lot of your "bad URL's. ... • Previous Page • Next Page |
