POOR MAN'S SNIPING SYSTEM Some people see an item and just bid on it and forget it. Most auctions are run under Proxy Bidding rules (i.e., you bid your maximum bid, but the auction computer keeps that amount hidden and bids for you only as much as is required to keep you in the lead - until your maximum bid is beaten by someone else bidding.) There are quite a few people (more every day) that like to wait until the last few seconds of the auction and "SNIPE" it. This allows them the chance to be the last bidder without anyone else having time to put in another bid and outbid them. You can get some really great deals on items that may have been overlooked a little. The biggest problems are that you have to be able to sit in front of your computer and watch the auctions end, plus you aren't the only one doing this, so you will quite often lose the bid. "Sniping" is all out war at times. Actually it is a lot of fun, but if you really want an item, or don't have the time or desire to sit in front of your computer, decide what is the maximum you'll pay, enter the bid, go do something else and hope. But ... if you have the time, want to have some fun, and want a good deal once in a while, "Go Sniping". There are a number of "Sniping" programs for sale on the auctions. Some of them are nice programs, but eBay keeps changing the rules and obsoleting them. Plus, unless you want to make a career out of "Sniping", why buy and learn another program. What I do is open up two (or more) separate windows on my browser. In one window I bring up the main description page of the item I want. I open the same page in the other window, but go to the bidding page. I fill out my bid, click on "Review Bid" if they have it and get ready. I DO NOT BID YET! I just get ready to. Now I go back to the other window and keep reloading, watching the clock, and seeing if any other bids are coming in. If the bid you have ready in the other window gets beaten, you decide if you want to forget it or go back and get a new higher bid ready. If no one is bidding you just wait. In either case, when there are about 20 seconds left in the auction, you switch back to your bidding window and "Submit" your bid. You will win the item unless someone else has a higher proxy bid, or unless someone else "out snipes" you. It happens. You will win some of the "Snipes", probably less than you lose, but in the long run, it can save you a lot of money rather than submitting early maximum bids. ... • Previous Page • Next Page |
