Misc. Auction Services Counters, Image Hosting, etc.
Counters
The counters that eBay provides for free through Andale are easy to use and work just fine. Our only complaint is the hassel getting to the Andale site and all the hype you get over their other services. So if you're looking for an alternative to eBay pictures, here's a few to check out.
AuctionTalk Their counters allow you to see how many unique visitors have viewed each of your auctions.
CountZ.com Very basic and easy to use page hit counter.
PictureList Create professional looking auctions with multiple pictures, counters, and more. Nothing to download!
| Ruby
Lane Their basic counter is free. Their premium counter has some good statistical gathering features. |
Image Hosting
We have to admit that the new ipix image hosting system that eBay is offering is pretty good. The "first picture free" service is a good deal. The additional images pricing isn't too bad either, but it does start to get pricey as you choose more options. The main reason we use picture hosting outside of eBay is for the flexibility. We like to put some of our pics right in the ads and even wrap the text around them so the pics can help tell the story. Plus we have so much more control over the size, etc. of the images that way too. Below we have listed some alternate image hosting sources, but first, where do you get good images? Pictures of your items taken with your own digital camera are a must if you are to be remotely successful on eBay... but sometimes generic pictures or clipart make a great alternative, especially if you are selling things like eBooks or information packages. We have bought many dollars worth of stock photos for use in our auctions and in web page design. The problem with these packages boasting 100's of images is that they never come with any way to search the massive database for exactly the picture you want. Well, if you haven't already, you should try Google's new "image search". It not only searches the entire web for images you can use, but it is free... and that's the price we were looking for. Just go to Google.com and click on the "images" tab right under the Google name. Play with a few searches. It's more fun than any present you got for your last birthday.
