| Using Banners or Links in Your Auction
Ads |
If you've already scoped out the "eBaytm ~ Taming the Beast"
training site, learned some basic HTML, and maybe even started jazzing
up your auction ads a little (surely the section on HTML didn't scare you), you might want to add a link to your
BeastTamer web site at the end of your auction description. It's FREE advertising for your site and could end up
more lucrative than your auction items. You have to be careful, because eBay gets hyper about anything that tries
to "circumvent" their fee structure. Here's what eBay has to say, "Links from the eBay Item page
to pages that promote off eBay sales in any way are forbidden, though
such pages may generally themselves contain discrete links to other commercial web pages."
Okay... did you get the hint. You can link to an informational page that doesn't sell anything, and then link to
your BeastTamer Sales Site from that page. If you're not yet a web page designer and don't have any informational
pages to link to, you can link to your eBay "About Me" page, and then put your BeastTamer link on that
page.
That's the accepted method, but many eBay Power Sellers just put the URL to the actual page they want you to go
to, right in their ad, but most don't make a "link" out of it. It's not as effective as just a link they
can click on, but eBay's eDetective's search spiders have a lot harder time finding it. They might stick something
like this in their ad:

One word of caution:
If eBay detects a link in your ad, they may determine it to be against their rules (which they say are very clear,
but we find pretty vague). They may then send you a warning letter, or cancel your ad altogether (at least they
do refund all your listing fees). If this happens, you will have no recourse. Ebay hold all the cards... and you
just got trumped. That may never happen, but be advised that it is a possibility.
