Miscellaneous Tips

Here's just a few more quick tips.

The quality of your auction description drastically effects your bids. Don't mess it up! The top money makers know how to dazzle their audience and create a vicious bidding war on their goods. Use words and descriptions that make your item to good to turn down, but don't fabricate or hide any defects or problems. To get top dollar for your goods you must inspire bidder confidence. Honesty and accountability are just as important as salesmanship. You have got to set the proper tone to inspire aggressive bidding! Just remember when you are composing your ad, you're competing with millions of other sellers. If you get a bidder to look at your ad, don't waste the opportunity.

Using reserve listings on the most items is auction suicide. In most cases bidders want to know that if they are the leading bidder, they will win the item. Ebay experiences lots of down time, and it is getting riskier not to use reserves. They used to extend all auctions when they went down, but that doesn't seem to be the norm any more. Some sellers use a technique that is highly frowned upon by eBay and most bidders known as shilling. Basically they sign up on eBay with a number of different User IDs and use one to sell with and the others to "Shill" or falsely bid up their prices. You've heard them called "ringers" or worse in live auctions, but the result is the same.

Auctions always do better if they start pulling bids early. Have you heard the old saying "a crowd draws a crowd?" The top Online Sellers know that getting critical early bids continues to draw more clicks, more bids, and a much higher final closing price. This is another place where you'll find some sellers doing a lot of "shilling". A low opening bid is far more likely to draw those critical opening bids. It's again somewhat risky, but "ya gotta play da game".

It's pretty commonly known that pictures in your ads may double or triple the number of bids you receive. If you don't include at least one picture of your item, you may be wasting your time. Plus, you need quality photos at good angles to inspire bidder confidence and get the highest closing prices. Read more about this in the article "Tips on Photos in Your Ads".
